The Folk Choir is very much a community choir. The choir exists to lead the congregational singing of hymns that are suitable for a large congregation of people. Our members are representative of the parish with members ranging in age from Primary and Secondary School pupils to adults.
The choir also play a role in bringing pupils together from different schools throughout the area giving them a stronger sense of their parish community and a chance to get to know each other. Their contribution is greatly valued as is their commitment to serving their parish in this way. Many are talented musicians in their own right. In addition, many of the adult members have served the choir for along time making them invaluable in terms of experience and planning future direction.
The choir meet once a fortnight throughout the year for practice and to choose the hymns for future Masses. It is a democratic process where everyone’s input is valued, making the ultimate decisions easier for the choir leaders.
Generally the Folk Choir has a strong sense of community within itself, inspiring and leading the congregation in choral worship. Once a year we sing carols at the Dalriada Care Centre to the sick who cannot participate in the parish Christmas celebrations.
