Bethany Bereavement Support Group

“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who - instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures - have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.” Henri Nouwen, Priest & Author (1932-96)

Bethany Bereavement Support Group is a voluntary parish based ministry dedicated to supporting the bereaved and those who are grieving. The group derives its name from the biblical homeplace of siblings Martha, Mary and Lazarus, a village which Jesus visited to console the sisters on the death of their beloved brother.

Bethany volunteers provide a compassionate, non-judgemental and fully confidential support service to those who are experiencing the loss of another. Our specially trained volunteers provide a truly listening ear for anyone needing to talk or be in the presence of someone who can respect their own unique experience of grief.

Grief left unattended can be detrimental in the short and long term to our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. At Bethany, we can help in the process of tackling or exploring the difficulties that grief often presents, and its accompanying feelings, which may be anger, loss, fear, shame, emptiness or uncertainty.

Our volunteers offer support via telephone and home visits.
